GI and Bariatric Surgeon in Bangalore | Dr Prabhu Nesargikar comes with an International pedigree and has experience of more than 16 years having worked in UK, South Korea and Singapore. He is a Consultant Esophageal and Gastric Oncosurgeon, Bariatric and Advanced Endoscopic Surgeon. He graduated from M.S. Ramaiah Medical College, Bengaluru and won any accolades in the medical school, including being in the top 10 percentile for academic acheievements. On completion of his MBBS, he subsequently moved to UK to pursue his surgical training. He did his Basic Surgical Training at Taunton, and obtained his MRCS from Royal College of Surgeons, England. Pursing his passion for teaching, he spent a year at Keele Medical School as a Clinical Tutor. Concurrent with his teaching, he carried out research in educational methodologies and obtained MA in Medical Education based on the thesis and was awarded ‘Merit’ distinction. His inquisitiveness in clinical research led him to Cardiff where he carried out basic science research in renal ischemia-reperfusion injures, and based on his work and thesis, he was awarded Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Cardiff University.
He presented his research work at European Congress of Organ Transplantation, Brussels and was awarded the prestigious “Young Investigator Award” among thousands of presentations.
He topped the UK National surgical interviews in 2010, and pursued his Higher Specialist Training in Scotland and specialised in General, Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery from Edinburgh. He was awarded CCT( Certificate of Completion of Training) from General Medical Council ( UK) on completion of his training, and obtained his FRCS from RCSEd. He was also awarded MFSTEd (Membership of Faculty of Surgical Trainers) in recognition of his teaching and training achievements.
He subsequently moved to Singapore and joined National University Hospital as Assosc Consultant in Upper GI Cancer and Bariatric Surgery. He gained further specialist training in cancer, bariatric surgery and advanced endoscopy surgery. During his stint in Singapore, he gained further specialist experience in Upper GI cancer at SNUH, Seoul, S.Korea and received awards at the Korean and Japanese Gastric Cancer Congresses.
He was always desired to return to India, and now works at HCG Hospital as a Consultant Esophageal- Gastric Cancer and Peritoneal cancer surgeon. He was instrumental in launching LOGIC (Lifestyle, Obesity and GI Care) by HCG enterprises and offers comprehensive multimodal treatment for obesity and metabolic disorders including endoscopic and operative interventions for weight loss. He is also specialist in Minimally Invasive Surgery and complex abdominal wall hernias.
He is a strong advocate of patient safety and has been involved in Human Factors and NOTSS training for surgeons in UK. He continues to be a tutor with the Edinburgh University, UK on their Surgical ChM programme. He is member of various international and national organisations, and has published in various journals. He has presented at various conferences in USA, UK, Europe, Korea, Japan and Vietnam, and has collaborations with teams in UK and Singapore.
